A New Day Starts Now

Welcome and thank you, sincerely, for taking the time to stop by and learn more about what we're working towards here at Day for Congress!

I know you're busy but that you want to cast an educated vote – so I'll get to the point.

Today, we're a year and a half from the 2008 election.

After last fall's campaign blitz, it might seem early to be hopping back into the political arena….and I couldn't honestly blame you for your fatigue.

But think about this: What if we ran things differently this time?

What if we said, this time, in Minnesota , we're not going to wait and have a two month popularity contest fueled by half-truths, big smiles and dirty attacks from powerful political allies?

What if we ran our campaign like a job interview?

What if you spent the next year telling me what you really want out of a leader? What concerns you and fires you up? What if we spent a year getting to know each other, learning about your challenges and expectations and my background and hopes for this nation? What if we took the time to make an informed decision?

The way I see it, there's a whole lot at stake for America right now. The years at our fingertips are more chock full of opportunity and possible pitfalls, more in need of inspirational guidance than any I've seen in my lifetime.

This simply isn't the time for easy answers or maintaining the status quo because we're afraid to ask for more.

I invite you to expect, to demand, more from elections than the unhelpful theatrics we've seen in the past few years. We've got time but we also have a daunting job ahead and I am chomping at the bit to get to work together.

Let's meet – I want to hear what you really think about the war in Iraq and the troop surge. I want to know if you support traditional Social Security or are intrigued by new options. Where should our tax dollars be targeted? How are health care plans and school systems meeting your needs?

I'm ready to hear what you need from Congress and willing to be honest with you every step of the way. But we just can't wait another day to get started .

I'm tired of complaining about national politics and expecting someone else to reform the mess. I know you can see the possibilities too. I know you can envision leaders who actually make us proud again – laws that actually make common sense.

I'm asking you to sit down and help me sketch out a blueprint for a New Day in America .

I can't imagine a greater gift we could give our children than action today .
